The National Literacy Association believes that reading is great. Reading is good for us and good for our children; this is one of the few constants on the educational landscape.

National Literacy AssociationReading supports writers, and the National Literacy Association supports children who find both reading and writing difficult. We are keen to see all children reading and writing poetry and prose, making meaning and expressing their thoughts in diverse ways. We believe that literacy skills liberate everyone and that everyone needs to enjoy reading and writing to become an effective citizen of the world.

The National Literacy Association is a small charity dedicated to supporting children who find the acquisition of literacy difficult. We produce our own publications and do project work. We work in partnership with a range of organisation that support children’s literacy needs and we do pioneering practical work in schools; with children in public care; parent and carer groups and the wider community. We have done a lot of internationally recognised work on the use of handheld computers to support children’s literacy.
