Eco Eco’le - A NEW concept for your school’s Environmental Classroom

The Eco Eco’le environmental classroom has been developed as a special Eco related, stand alone, environmental area within school grounds allowing pupils to learn and practice Eco policies and activities including the measurement of climate related activity, study of organic food production methods, recycling at the local level and the study and use of sustainable materials in the construction of buildings.
Launched at the 2007 Education Show at the NEC Birmingham on 22 March 2007, the Eco Eco’le immediately generated interest from schools around the UK, and is one of a number of designs in the Eco Range of Timber Buildings manufactured by Morgans of Oswestry.

The availability of a specific teaching area related to environmental issues and subjects supports the Eco-Schools international programme. This programme was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education, and aims to help children become more effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment. Its main focus is to get children to be more environmentally aware.

The Eco Eco’le is manufactured to a very high specification using materials which have been developed specifically to meet strict environment building requirements or which are traceable to a renewable resource including and in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council. It is built to meet all current UK building regulations and can be supplied either in kit form of fully constructed on-site.
The building has been designed in modular form to enable one or more modules to be erected together to form a larger Eco Eco’le building if required. A Greenhouse Extension is available which is designed to be fitted at the double door end of the module.

Although certain features of the building are included as standard, there are a number of optional choices including the choice of a grassed roof, internal modular electric points and low cost internal wall mounted heating.

External and Internal Elevations ( Walls )
The external elevation is manufactured from Scandinavian Redwood timber ( Softwood ) Finnish Log Lap from Managed Forests and factory treated with a Lumber Jack© wood preservative. The Log Lap internal surface is fixed with a building paper membrane. The internal elevation is made of ½ inch Far Eastern plywood.
Insulation of the walls is with 600mm wide x 80 mm thick Kingspan© Insulation foil lined foam set between 100mm deep x 50mm wide timber studding.

Roof Trusses
Manufactured from treated softwood which has been harvested from well managed UK forests, in accordance with the rules of the Forestry Stewardship Council. The trusses are rated to a dead load weight of 2,000 KN/m2.

Flooring
Floor support is constructed from 100mm x 50mm mixed softwood timber, primarily larch, tanalized treated [ against weather degradation and rot ] to British Standard ( BS17 Part 5 ) harvested from well managed UK forests in accordance with the rules of the Forestry Stewardship Council and covered with tongue and grooved 18 mm chipboard ( 2.4 metres x 0.6 metres ) and insulated with Kingspan© 25 mm thick singled sided foil faced foam to provide a heat reflective surface.

Windows and Doors
The building is provided with a single fire escape door to one end of the building, double doors to the opposite end and a dual door POD system to one side of the building which provides the main entrance. All window glass consists of Pilkington K-Glass© 4-12-4 Argon gas-filled double glazed units. The Fire door is 1-hour rated and has an internal push-bar locking system. All other doors have 5-lever locks. All windows are fitted with window locking stays.

Eco Eco’le offers a choice of roofing materials with Onduline© corrugate fluted roofing sheets ( maintenance free and 15 years guarantee ) as standard, but with living Green roof alternatives. Internal ceiling insulation is Kingspan© 100 mm thick singled sided foil faced foam to provide a heat reflective surface.

Internal Fittings
Each Eco Eco’le module comes with three 1,000mm x 1,000mm base units, one 500 mm base unit, one 500 mm drawer unit and one floor to ceiling cupboard as standard, fitted running alongside the windowed side wall and further fitted with a 40mm worktop work surface. Base unit heights can be varied to suit individual requirements. Although not included as standard, the building can be fitted with modular duel point electrical sockets and internal wall mounted space heaters ( located above stretched arm height ).

External Fittings
The Eco Eco’le comes complete with black plastic guttering and down pipes together with three plastic 210 litre water butts.

Location Site and Building Base requirements
The Eco Eco’le can be sited either on a grassed area perhaps on the perimeter of a playing field area or on a firm Tarmac, paved or concreted area. In all cases the Eco Eco’le must be erected on a standard and secured base. If it is to be sited on a soft surface area ( grass ) it will require a proper load-bearing concrete base.

The Eco Eco’le pricing includes the erection onto a standard pre-prepared base assuming one or other of the alternatives ( but excludes the cost of the pre-prepared base, which price will be quoted on request ). However, where difficulties of site access or ground conditions indicate additional resources than those priced as standard, there will be an additional extra charge for exceptional resource requirements, which additional price will be the subject of a properly executed and agreed quotation by the company to the school before a purchase contract has been formalised.

Greenhouse Module - Principal dimensions of the Eco Eco’le Greenhouse
External measurements: 3.0 metres x 3.0 metres
External elevations ( walls ) ( excluding prepared base ): 2.4 metres
Roof: Corrugate fluted Perspex panels
The Greenhouse Extension can only be fitted to the double door end of an Eco Eco’le module and therefore only one Greenhouse Extension can be accommodated with an Eco Eco’le building consisting of one or more Eco Eco’le modules.
All three external sides of the greenhouse are half glazed with 6mm toughened glass, allowing maximum light into the Greenhouse. Variable height work surface staging to two sides of the Greenhouse to allow pupils to site growing pots etc. is included as standard.

Non-standard Requests
Eco Eco’le will consider any reasonable request for non-standard minor change to specification and provided that any such non-standard change can be made with limited disruption to production systems, such changes will be subject to additional pricing charges which would be agreed prior to order commitment.
